Managing Athlete Statuses

How do I mark an athlete as withdrawn or disqualified?

During a competition, you may need to assign a special status to an athlete. This can happen if they withdraw, suffer an injury, are unable to complete a workout, or are disqualified. Athlete statuses provide clear labels for empty scores on the leaderboard, helping athletes and spectators understand why a score is zero or empty.

Assigning an Athlete Status

To assign a status to an athlete:

  1. Go to the Score Entry or Heat Scoring.

  2. Select a division to open the scoring table (or select Heat Scoring if using the Scheduler)

  3. Locate the athlete’s name.

  4. Click the “Click for Status" button next to their name.

  5. Select the appropriate status from the list.

Available Athlete Statuses

  • WD (Withdraw) – Use when an athlete withdraws, either before the competition begins or partway through.

  • INJ (Injured) – Indicates the athlete was injured and unable to complete a workout.

  • DNF (Did Not Finish) – Use when the athlete cannot finish a workout for reasons other than injury (could also be used instead of INJ if preferred).

  • DQ (Disqualified) – The most serious status, used when an athlete is removed from the competition (e.g., cheating or inappropriate behavior).

Special Notes on DQ

A DQ also has additional behavior:

  • A DQed athlete automatically has their scores scaled across the entire competition (in order to push their original scores to the bottom of the leaderboard).

  • The athlete’s name is labeled with Disqualified on the leaderboard to clearly explain why they appear at the bottom, even if they previously had valid scores.

Leaderboard

Once a status has been assigned, the associated label will appear in the empty scoring cells for the athlete on the leaderboard (but not in the scoring table).

Here is an example of what a Withdrawal midway through a competition would look like on the leaderboard (see Gabriela Migała):

Limitations of Athlete Statuses

Athletes statuses currently have a couple of limitations that are important to be aware of:

  • One status only – An athlete can only have one status assigned at a time (e.g., they cannot be both Withdrawn and Injured).

  • Status visibility – A status label only appears in the scoring cell on the leaderboard if no score is entered for that workout. Otherwise, it will display the score.

  • Score forfeiture – Any status applied to a workout without a score will forfeit all the athlete’s points for that workout. This effect only occurs if the score is empty for the workout.
